Washington Improv Theater Presents: Seasonal Disorder

without comments

Seasonal Disorder 2008 Playbill

This Thursday night at 8pm Washington Improv Theater (“WIT”) kicks off its annual holiday themed run of shows beginning with a sneak preview of ONESIXTYONE’s “Seasonal Disorder“.  The preview is open to a general audience and the price is “pay what you can”.  Tickets will be priced at $15 for each subsequent performance except for OPENING NIGHT this Friday.

For $25, OPENING NIGHT includes a talkback with cast and director after the show, a wine-and-cheese reception, backstage tour, and admission to the 9:30PM iMusical performance.

Seasonal Disorder is made up of DC’s most talented and SEASONED long form improvisors and me.   Collectively, we have about 114 years of improv training and  performance between us and can list Second City, Improv Olympic and Upright Citizens Brigade as places we’ve passed in cabs.  Just kidding!  Cabs are for millionaires!

Tickets will go fast so click the links above to get tickets.  All of WIT’s ensembles are performing in the run with new shows of their own.  I will also be performing with my gloroius team Season Six on Saturday nights.   We have a dynamite format and two new players to show off.

WIT’s run begins November 19th and ends on January 2nd.  Click here for a full schedule of shows.

WIT performs at Source located conveniently between Cafe St. Ex and Bar Pilar on 14th St. & T St. NW.

Three Cheers For Dan Hodapp & His First Jimmy Fallon Appearance

with 2 comments

The only thing that made staying in on Friday night bearable was being home to see my dear friend Dan’s appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.  He was cast as the “groom” for a bit they filmed on Friday the 13th.  He really sold “surprised groom”.  I cried and that ain’t just the Hydrocodone talking… maybe whispering.  His appearance was brief but the camera stayed on him long enough for all of us cheering at home to get a glimpse of that money maker mug.  WIT and DC’s loss is truly New York City’s gain.  We miss you buddy and can’t wait to see more!

Improvapalooza 2009 Breakdown

without comments

Aparna breaks it DOWN.

Aparna breaks it DOWN.

Aparna, I am totally stealing your summary of shows because I have a condition that rhymes with sloth…  nope, actually that’s the word.  See?  I was too lazy to think of a word that rhymes with sloth.

Please check out Aparna’s pictorial breakdown of shows from Improvapalooza 2009 here.  There were so many funny funny moments in so many shows it’s hard to pick a favorite.  So I will just say that the shows that I was in:  Ames Aimes: A Sketch Show, Destination: You!; Population: Fun!; Bad Walken, WIT HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, and Season Six’s  Reunion Show were the best ones.

NYC Weekend/ Del Close Marathon

without comments

This weekend Season Six will be performing at the Del Close Marathon in NYC with a number of other WIT troupes, including iMusical of which Curly & Cleveland are members.  I am excited to perform again for a UCB audience.  It’s been a few years… I’m trying not to think about the sitcomesque panic attack I’m going to have before we get on stage.   You know what I mean, a sitcom character, usually the cocky braggart, finds themselves being interviewed for the local news or having to speak to a board room of executives ready to give  the thumbs up or down on their new product based on the smoothness of their presentation… and everything falls to pot.  They’re a deer in headlights or are next seen breathing through a paper bag.  Yeah.  I’m preparing for a meltdown.

In the meantime, I’m also preparing for a weekend filled with friends, culture and french fries.  Because you’re curious, here’s a few things I have planned for Friday through Monday:

I had just thought of one more place to visit, DTUT.  It was my place of solice when I had just moved to 84th St. with already three months of unemployment under my belt back in 2001.  It took me another three months to get a job.  After looking through the Want Ads in the Times, I would walk across the street to DTUT to get an iced coffee, sit on the couch and read and sometimes check my hotmail at the PAY computer for $1.25 a minute.  No joke.  This was before the boom of laptops and people actually came into the coffee shop to sit and read the paper or whatever book (remember those?) they wanted to finish that week.  DTUT was a true East Coast coffee house before there was a Starbucks on every corner.  I just googled it for an image and I found out it was closed in 2007.  Is nothing sacred?

Come to the Annual WIT Fundraiser (5/9 8pm)

without comments

WIT Party location: 1810 16th St. NW ( & S St.)

WIT Party location: 1810 16th St. NW ( & S St.)

The annual Washington Improv Theater fundraiser is being held tomorrow night at 8pm.  I know that it will be difficult for most of the prison population that patrons this blog to make it but if you’re in a DC area pen maybe you could tell your favorite guard to come and support them artsy fartsy types who throw away their tax dollars on music and drama programs.

On the real, friends in DC that are not of WIT,  if you can make it please come.  WIT is a non-profit and relies mostly on grants and donations for funding.  WIT is made up of a small office staff, teachers, players and die hard volunteers.  I can tell you that the amount of unpaid work I’ve done for this joint would give Jack Donaghy a stroke but it has made me so happy and fulfilled that I am my own Oprah special.

It’s a communist themed barn burner so please come dressed as your favorite or least favorite revolutionary.  I am probably going to look like something between Patty Hearst and one of them tough lesbian Bond villians… or I will just be in a black turtleneck because they are my woobie.

I hope to see you there.

This will be me on Saturday, but not as wealthy or morally corrupt.
